Producers/Distributors

My group are the producers. We have thought about it and decided to call our company 'Pass Out Productions'.

Distributors that we have thought about are:

Miramax - Happy-Go-Lucky (British Comedy)
Bridget Jones' Diary 1&2 (British Rom-Com)
She's All That (American Comedy)

Summit Entertainment - Sex Drive (Comedy)
Twighlight (One of the most popular films made)
A Lot Like Love (Comedy)

Universal Pictures - Get Him to the Greek (Comedy)
Kick Ass (Comedy)
It's Complicated (Rom-Com)
Role - Models (Comedy)

Miramax distributed Bridgets Jones' Diary 1 & 2, which suggests that they distribute films aimed at an older audience to what we have done. However, they do distribute a British comedy, like ours.

Universal Pictures distribute a lot of comedy films similar to ours, and are a very popular distributing company.

However, we have chosen Summit Entertainment, as as well as distrbuting very successful Comedies and Rom-Coms, they also distributed Twilight which is a very successful film and one of the most popular ever made. It is also aimed at a target audience similar to ours, so I think that Summit Entertainment is ideal to distribute Graduation Day.

Karin Fong - title sequence designer

Old and New title sequences.

Vertigo (1958)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz46qS38OgM

The camera quality of this title sequence shows straight away that it is an older film. When filming the girl at the beginning of the clip, the camera stays still. The music sounds like it is a live orchestra, which implies that it is old, as the song does not sound recorded. The typography does not match the idea that the film is going to be quite scary, which the music suggests to us. The spinning colours on the black background doesn't give us any clues to what it is going to be about. There is no clue to what the setting is, but the red on the girl's eye connotates that it is going to be scary and gruesome.

American Psycho (2000)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF9rP1w2sCE

This title sequence gives us more of an idea of the setting of the film. The camera angles and shots, for example, the close-ups used, and the objects that are put in place to symbolise something give us an idea of the genre of the film. The voice of what we assume is the main character is heard throughout the title sequence, and he tells us about himself. The music fits the mood of the play and suggests that the film is going to have a lot of twists to it.

Both films have music to set the atmosphere, and give us a clue to what the film is going to be about. It is obvious to see that American Psycho is a more modern film as the camera quality is much better, and uses more camera shots and angles. Both title sequences give us the idea of the genre of the film. American Psycho shows us the setting and introduces us to a character, which Vertigo doesnt do.

Title Sequences (Rom com)

Love Actually

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_saCHD4Wzqk

Rom Com with Hugh Grant who is known to do Rom Com's. Immediately we know the genre of the film. It introduces love in all forms notn just romantic love. Only digetic sound of Hugh Grant and the non-digetic sound of a soundtrack which sets the tone of soothing love and romance. It sets the location of Britain with Heathrow airport with an establishing shot. It uses mid-tracking shots to show people running up to loved ones but also close-ups to show emotions of the people. The codes and conventions are clearly shown through Hugh Grant being a British, Rom-com actor and being in London Heathrow airport for location. The themes of love, family, friends, relationships are clearly shown also with the cinematography of mid-shots and close-ups of people in an airport running up to each other with love and such happiness.

10 Things I Hate About You
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc_UUofTKag

The location of the film is clearly shown in an American city but most importantly a high school which then connotates the film for a teen audience. It is shown by an establishing shot capturing many students in the school. The whacky typography suggests the genres of a comedy and a teen film. Only one main character is shown by standing out and being different by the song she plays being different to the one on the soundtrack. The themes of the film are shown by the hatrid of the main character and also school life and about the prom.

Brief and Treatment

Brief

The purpose of our movie is to entertain the niche audience, but to also allow them to revisit days, and able to have an insight into student life. Our film would appeal to our target audience because of its humorous side, and they’ll be able to relate to the characters within our film, as our characters are students. Therefore many of our students will be able to relate to last day, graduation day etc… Our target audience will also enjoy our film because they may have experienced the experiences that will be portrayed in our film.

Our film will be distributed by advertisement in cinemas worldwide! It will be presented by adverts, billboards, radio etc…

Our film will be a low budget film as it will be our first, however not our last. We will be using cheap props, and a location, not a studio.

We plan to have our film done in the next couple of months.
